We're getting to that time of year when people start thinking about New Year's Resolutions. If one of your resolutions is to get into the habit of reading the Bible every day and reading through the entire Bible, then you might want to check out Jesus, Day By Day by Sharon Kaselonis. I received an advance review copy of the book through the Waterbrook & Multnomah launch program. This book takes you through the entire Bible over the course of the entire year. Literally, it starts on January 1 and ends on December 31. (Not sure if there's a devotional for a Leap Year day, but all the other days are definitely covered.) Basically, you're given a Bible verse or two to read, and then a larger passage written by Kaselonis.
I'm a little late reviewing this book, so I only got a few days of this daily devotional read. I was, unfortunately, in a section of the book where each day there were four Bible passages to read plus the part written by Kaselonis. What I usually like my devotionals to be is something quick - 15 minutes tops. This was not that. (If you want something quicker, check out Core 52.)
I also thought that the book didn't often relate back to what the Bible verses were talking about, and if I'm reading something about the Bible that's supposed to help me see Jesus on every page, then I want to know more about what I'm reading in the Bible. Not going to lie, it was a little hard for me to get into this devotional.
That's not to say that in the new year I won't start it back up again to give it another chance, maybe doing a month on and a month off. I did look through other sections of the book, and saw that there were only one or two Bible passages instead of four on most days. So maybe I just happened to start in the wrong part of the book and the other daily devotionals actually would be within my morning timeframe.
If you're looking for a daily devotional to start up in the new year, then you might want to check out Jesus, Day By Day. Even though it isn't a 100-percent fit for me, it could be for you! This could also be a great book gift for Christmas.
Jesus, Day By Day is published by Multnomah and is on bookstore shelves now. I received a free advance review copy in exchange for my honest review.
