Core 52 - Book Review

I'm a few weeks into the Core 52 devotional by Mark E. Moore, and I'm enjoying reading through different Bible passages and learning about key themes in the Bible. It really is easy to do, even for those who may think they don't have time.

Here's how it works: Each week has a different theme. (So, 52 themes.) And within each theme, there are five tasks to complete - one a day. You start off by reading an essay on the theme. The next day, you memorize a verse. On the next two days, you read and reflect more on other Bible passages that further the week's message. And then you're encouraged to put into practice what you've just read.

Easy right? It's basically just taking fifteen minutes, five days a week to "build your Bible IQ", as the subtitle of the book says.

If you're curious about what these themes are, well, the book goes all the way from Creation to Heaven with Holiness, Wisdom, Prayer, Leadership, Communion, Knowing God's Will, and more in the middle.

I find the memory verse days the hardest, but that's just because I haven't come up with a good system yet for memorizing them AND my brain really can't take anymore. I can barely remember to leave the house with everything I need. Seriously, brain capacity is at an all-time low.

But I'm still enjoying gaining some new perspective on 52 of the most important verses and topics in the Bible. The goal of doing the Core 52 challenge is to make the rest of the Bible a little clearer, so if that's something you're interested in doing, then I would recommend this book. Even if you're just looking for a new way to do daily devotionals, then I think Core 52 is a good option.

Core 52 is published by Waterbrook and Multnomah, and is available on bookstore shelves today. I received a free advance review copy from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.
