How to Scrapbook When You Don't Have Photos Printed

Sometimes I really want to sit down and scrapbook, but I don't have any photos printed. Has that ever happened to you?

I am not a fan of printing pictures out on my home printer because the quality isn't as good, it uses up a lot of (expensive) ink, and my stupid printer won't print on 4x6 photo paper, even though it is supposed to be able to. So I always print my photos through Shutterfly because I can get free prints through the app. (Just pay shipping.)

Having said all that, sometimes I'm waiting for my print order to arrive and sometimes I just don't have the money at the time to place a photo order. So what do I do? I scrapbook without photos! Do you do this? I'm sharing some scrapbook layouts today that will hopefully inspire you. Make sure to visit each page's scrapbook process video, linked underneath the image.

I look through what photos I will be receiving/ordering next and try to find some scrapbook sketches that will work for those photos - the orientation of the photos, the theme, etc. Then, I just lay out the page and put in a photo placeholder. You can either washi tape this placeholder down and remove it once you have your picture, or you can stick down a photo mat on which you'll place your photo.

There is no right or wrong to do it, though you do have to be careful about where you are sticking down embellishments. I sometimes like my embellishments to be layered over the photos, and if I don't have the photo, that part can get tricky. If you can, leave part of the backing on the embellishment (if it's self-adhesive) and then just peel it off when you're finally ready to stick it down.
These scrapbook layouts are just a few that I made last year featuring no photos. Some of them I have been able to add photos to, while others are still waiting. I find it easier to scrapbook without photos when I do have specific photos in mind, however, I have also scrapbooked pages without specific photos in mind. It is kind of nice to have pre-made pages in my stash that can be used for whatever.

If you scrapbook like this sometimes, let me know how you do it in the comments. And don't forget to visit each layout's scrapbook process video on my YouTube channel!
