How to Earn 5 Flowers, 4 Stories, 3 Animals Daisy Journey Badge - Meeting 2 Plan

As I said in my last Girl Scouts post, it took us five meetings to finish this Journey. I'm not entirely sure I did everything correctly, but I'm not going to take all the blame for that. The instructions and activity ideas in the Volunteer Toolkit (VTK) were not good and often confusing. (Why did we build nests in meeting 2 if we never used them again after that?)

Meeting 2 Plan for 5 Flowers, 4 Stories, 3 Animals Daisy Journey Badge:

All About Me Nests

At the previous meeting, the girls were supposed to draw a picture of caring for an animal. We didn't really get to that, so I had them do it at home and bring those pictures to share at this meeting.

From there, we used brown paper lunch bags to create nests. The girls balled up the bags until they looked like birds' nests, and then we decorated them with Dollar Tree stickers and baubles. These nests were supposed to "hold all the things that represent how you care for yourselves - including the pictures that you drew".

Roleplay: Choices, Choices

The next step was to do some roleplaying, and this activity was not a hit with my girls. I paired them up in groups and tried to get them to work together to make decisions about how they would handle certain situations. One scenario was about two girls who found a baby bird. Do they lift the bird back into its nest or tell their mom?

This worked best when we just talked it out as a group as opposed to having the girls do any acting/roleplaying.

Meeting Tula and Lions

The last step was introducing the girls to Tula from the Flower Friends. I talked about how Tula stands for the Girl Scout Law value of being courageous and strong. That segued into talking about lions, an animal that stands for courage. After giving some fun facts about lions, I sent each girl home with a lion picture to color, and at the following meeting, we glued those onto our Team Animal Mural.

Because we held this meeting at our local farm, we ended with the farm's homemade ice cream!

Did your Daisy troop also complete this Journey badge? What did you do to earn it? Let me know in the comments!
