Midlife Bites Book Review

If you're a woman of a certain age and you need someone to drop serious truth bombs on you, then let Jen Mann do it in her new book Midlife Bites.

You might have heard of Jen Mann before. She's the author of other books, as well as the blog People I Want to Punch In the Throat (which I have never read, but I think I really should).

In this book, Mann shares that yes, it is possible for women to have midlife crises. It's just that no one ever talks about it! I think my favorite part was when the author tried to have a conversation with her male gynecologist about menopause, and he just sort of pooh-poohed her concerns. Like, "It happens, you'll be fine, bye." Mann writes that if men went through menopause "[t]here'd be an entire section of the bookstore dedicated to the 'mysteries of manopause.' Female doctors wouldn't give them a condescending pat and say, 'This too shall pass, honey.'"

This is why I prefer female doctors.

There's a lot of good advice in this book, from finding friends that truly get you (easier said than done, I think) to not worrying about peeing when you sneeze to communicating with your spouse! Don't be afraid to share your feelings. Don't be afraid to have feelings!

This is a humorous read that may just get most of us ladies through difficult periods of our lives. Because I think that yes, at some point, all women feel like they're falling apart. I'd recommend it for your next book club.

Midlife Bites is published by Ballantine Books and will be available to purchase on January 4, 2022 (tomorrow!). I received a free e-ARC from the publisher in exchange for this review.
