Toy Gift Guide 2018: Best Collectible Toys

When I was a kid, everyone was collecting Beanie Babies. But today's kids have so many options when it comes to collectible toys. Most of them are mini, some of them have an unboxing element to them, and lots of them are soft, like my beloved Beanie Babies.

I think Num Noms, stackable and scented little characters, are super cute. But this year they've gone "snackable" in fun food-themed collections. The Cereal collection includes a bunch of cereal-themed Num Nom characters in a bowl of "milk" with a special spoon.

2. Sticky the Unicorn - Hog Wild, 4+
Unicorns and poop have been major trends in the toy aisle this year, and Hog Wild makes these two themes tactile with its line of Sticky products. Whether you get the unicorn or the rainbow poop, you can squish them and squeeze them or throw them at a wall and watch them stick!

3. Disney Ufufy - Shop Disney, birth+
First there was Disney Tsum Tsum, and now the latest Disney stuffed animal craze is Ufufy. These are super cute little egg-shaped versions of your favorite Disney characters, and they have a fun scent, too.

4. Twisty Petz - Spin Master, 4+
Is it a bracelet? Is it an animal friend? It's both! With just a twist, you can go from fun fashion accessory to super cute animal. I love the assortment of styles in this collection, plus I like wearing them, and I think that kids will, too.

5. Lock Stars - Hasbro, 5+
When I first saw these, I thought, "How cute?" There are lots of different Lock Stars to collect, and each comes with mini charms, smaller locks, and keys to open the locks. With so many different styles, there's going to be a Lock Star for boys and girls to collect and display on their book bags or shoes.

6. Fugglers - Spin Master, 4+
For adults who are familiar with the original Funny Ugly Monsters as seen on Etsy, these crazy little stuffed creatures will have a collectible appeal. Don't worry - they are not made with real teeth. But they do have large toothy smiles that give them a distinctly creepy (or cute?) feel.

7. Hatchimals Colleggtibles Tropical Party Playset - Spin Master, 5+
Hatchimals are traditionally large electronic stuffed animals that you have to hatch out of giant eggs. But with the Colleggtibles line, you get small versions of the cute creatures, and this year they light up! This playset has lights and music, plus lots of fun places to display and play with your collection.

8. BrickHeadz Ariel & Ursula - LEGO, 10+
The BrickHeadz line is a collectible construction set line featuring favorite characters from movies, including The Little Mermaid. The square look of these buildable figures gives them a stylized look that older collectors will appreciate. They aren't very playable, but they're mainly for display purposes in a fan's bedroom or desktop.

9. Fingerlings Hugs - WowWee, 4+
Let me be clear: I hate Fingerlings. I don't understand their appeal. I find their repeat play value to be very limited. But I LOVE Fingerlings Hugs. These are plush versions of the original Fingerlings monkeys and they are super interactive and fun to hug! They repeat what you say and respond when you throw them or swing them around. They also make a nice fashion accessory when hanging around your neck with their Velcro paws.

10. Cutetitos - Basic Fun, 3+
I adore Cutetitos! Instead of unboxing, you're unwrapping a plush friend inside these reusable tortilla-designed blankets. And the plush animals are SO SOFT. I just love the realistic look of the tortilla blanket, too. It makes me hungry for Mexican food.

11. Disney Mickey and Minnie Kawaii Squeezies - Just Play, 4+
Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, and food? Combine all three in this super cute collectible lineup of slow-rise toys featuring the famous mice and sweet treats. These will be fun to squeeze and can also be used for some pretend food play by imaginative kids.

There are, of course, a lot more collectible toys out there, but this list is just some of my favorites that I've seen this year. What do your kids like to collect? Better yet, what do YOU like to collect?
