Need some inspiration for using mixed media on your scrapbook layouts? Here are a few recent pages I created primarily using Tim Holtz Distress Oxide sprays and inks.
For this page, I inked a Simple Stories photo stencil to create an ombre look in the bottom left corner of the page. The background cardstock is Vicki Boutin Foundations Paper, which is really nice and thick. It holds mixed media very well. I also used the same colors in Distress Oxide sprays to create splatters.
The mixed media on this two-page layout is very easy to do. It's called the packaging technique, and all you need are Tim Holtz Distress Oxide sprays or your spray of choice and leftover plastic packaging - like the kind that holds your embellishments or letter stickers. Spray the spray onto the plastic and then just smoosh it down onto the cardstock where you want it. I smooshed my yellow spray around the center of the pages where I knew the photos were going to be.
This next page is all about the splatters. You can splatter your cardstock (again I use Vicki Boutin Foundations Paper) before you put all your other papers and photos down, or you can splatter after. If you splatter after, just make sure to cover your photos so you don't get ink on your photos. If you do, that's okay! Just wipe it off quickly with a baby wipe.
This next page is a combination of the smooshing technique and splatters. What I find helpful when doing the smooshing technique is to lay out where I want all my photos and papers and lightly trace around them with pencil. Then when you move them out of the way, you'll still see the outline of where they're going to go, and then you know where not to put your ink so that the ink doesn't get covered up.
I hope these layouts and tips are helpful to you, whether you are new to mixed media or have done it before. It's a lot of fun to get messy when you're scrapbooking, and it just adds more visual interest to your pages. Stay tuned! I'll have more scrapbook layouts to share soon!
