What do you do when you're a nutritionist and two of your children end up with food allergies? You go into the kitchen and revamp favorite meals to make them allergen-free and healthier. That's what you'll find in The Allergy-Friendly Cookbook by Elizabeth Pecoraro, RDN.
Many food allergy families will identify with the Pecoraro family's struggles with food allergies, from getting tested to finding the right allergist. It's from those struggles that this cookbook was born.
The cookbook is broken down into Breakfast, Soups and Starters, Mains, Sides and Sauces, and Desserts. Pecoraro includes substitution ideas for each recipe, depending on what foods you need to avoid. She also includes vegetarian recipes in the Mains chapters.
What I liked about this cookbook were the healthier recipes. Pecoraro strives to help families cut down on sugar and sneak in more fruits and veggies. As a family that is gluten-free and dairy-free, I found that most of the recipes could work for us! I even found a lot that could be adapted for my acid reflux dietary restrictions (and others that could not - I'm really going to miss a good homemade tomato soup, and that Sweet Potato Turkey Loaf sounds so good, but I can't have ketchup!).
If you are looking for some new recipes to try or need ideas for how to start an allergen-free lifestyle, then definitely check out The Allergy-Friendly Cookbook.
The Allergy-Friendly Cookbook is published by Red Lightning Books and is available to purchase now. I received a free review copy.
