Summer Camp at Home - Week 2: Strawberry Week

One of our favorite summertime activities is picking strawberries. The local farm near our house always has great strawberry picking during the month of June, so we make sure to load up a pint of fresh strawberries to enjoy in smoothies, with powdered sugar, or to freeze for the future.

If you also like strawberries, then definitely make strawberry picking one of your summer activities. And consider pairing some of these strawberry-themed activities with a trip to your local farm.

Strawberry Lime Popsicles

What to make with all those fresh strawberries you picked? How about these Strawberry Lime Popsicles from No Biggie? All you need are three ingredients: strawberries, a lime, and honey.

Strawberry Crisp

Making my own dairy-free, gluten-free version of this Strawberry Crisp from Num's the Word is on my summer bucket list for this year! I love a good fruit crisp as breakfast, snack, and dessert with ice cream!

Handprint Strawberry Craft

This Handprint Strawberry Craft from 123Homeschool4Me is so cute and would make a nice summertime keepsake and/or fridge decoration. Kids trace and cut out their hands to serve as the leaves on top of the paper strawberry!

Books About Strawberries

I love reading books with my daughter, so I take any opportunity to incorporate books into a themed week. Teaching Heart suggests the book The Little Mouse, The Red Ripe Strawberry, and The Big Hungry Bear. And Homeschool Preschool offers up even more strawberry-themed book ideas for kids.

Don't worry if your local library doesn't have any of the books you want. Do a Google search to see if anyone has filmed a read-aloud of the books on YouTube. That's how we read so many books together during the 2020 Covid-19 quarantine!

Educational Activities for After You Pick Strawberries

If you go strawberry picking, then you might want to consider some of these Educational Activities for After Strawberry Picking. Some of the ideas, from Organized Homeschooler, are more strawberry books to read, but she also suggests planting a strawberry plant, exploring the life cycle of a strawberry, and more!

Strawberry Preschool Worksheets

Got a preschooler that you're trying to prep for Kindergarten? Check out these Strawberry Preschool Worksheets from Homeschool Preschool. These free printables include science, books, art, and more.

You'll also find Parts of a Strawberry Plant from Homeschool Preschool. This free printable gives kids a visual of what the parts of a strawberry are and what they are called.

And if your kid likes to color, then check out a free coloring page printable from Homeschool Preschool. While you're learning about the parts of a strawberry, you can also color and learn about the life cycle of a strawberry with the Strawberry Color Me! Diagram.

Bubble Wrap Printed Fruit

This was one of my painting for kids ideas from a few years ago, and it's something I continue to do with my daughter and in my scrapbooking! Use bubble wrap as your paintbrush! This idea for Bubble Wrap Printed Fruit comes from In the Playroom, with other suggestions for bubble wrap-painting other fruits and vegetables.

Strawberry DNA Extraction

Whether you've picked your own strawberries or purchased them from your grocery store, you can do this cool science experiment! Strawberry DNA Extraction helps kids observe DNA from the cells of a strawberry. Talk Nerdy to Me makes this science experiment for kids easy to understand and do.

Strawberry Themed Count and Clip Cards

Free Homeschool Deals has some really cute (and free) Strawberry Themed Count and Clip Cards. This activity is a great way to help younger practice counting, number recognition, and fine motor skills.
