But Definitely Wear Mascara is a fast-paced book of advice for moms. Nikki Oden, founder of Your Ideal Mom Life and host of Love Your Mom Life podcast, shares words of wisdom for those of us going through this journey known as motherhood. Does she prescribe to the stereotypical notion that all moms love wine? Yes. (Spoiler alert: we don't.) Does she give advice from the perspective of a privileged white woman? Yes. Does she give a lot of advice that you've probably heard before? Yes. Does she often repeat herself throughout the chapters? Yes.
But that's not to say that you won't find some unique takeaway, something that speaks specifically to you and your situation.
As the book's subtitle suggests, the 40 (very short) chapters in this book are "hacks to help you love your mom life (and yourself) a little more." You can read the book cover to cover or just hop around to the chapter titles that sound interesting and applicable to your life. Maybe that's "Stop Saying Yes All the Time" or "The Power of a Morning Routine".
After reading this book, am I going to wake up earlier in the morning to be up before everyone else in my family so that I can have 15 minutes of "me time"? Hell no. I know what I value, and I value SLEEP. I get my "me time" once everybody else leaves the house for the day.
After reading this book, am I definitely going to wear mascara? Nope. I actually can't wear mascara on the regular because it clogs my eyelid glands and results in some not-so-fun eye problems. And why would I put on any makeup anyway just to make a grocery store run? Who am I trying to impress there?
After reading this book, am I going to take an inventory of the five people I hang around the most? Yes. Am I going to read the "Four Books Every Mom Should Read"? Yes. (I've already read You Are a Badass.) Am I going to look up affirmations to say with my daughter to help raise her as a brave kid? Yes.
Am I going to share this book in a Little Free Library to share these hacks with someone else? Yes!
But Definitely Wear Mascara is published by Phoenix Advantage Media and is available to purchase now. I received a free copy in exchange for this review.
