The Mother Load Book Review

I absolutely loved this book. It's a must-read for all moms everywhere, whether you're a mom-to-be, a new mom, or a seasoned mom.

Author Meredith Ethington lays it all bare in The Mother Load: Surviving the Daily Grind Without Losing Your Ever Loving Mind. How our bodies and brains change, what it really means to "have it all", how to ask for help, and advice for moms dealing with mental health issues. (Ethington herself suffers from anxiety, OCD, and depression.)

I highlighted so many passages in this book. I definitely resonated with the "mom brain" chapters.

"I've learned to accept a lot of things that come with being a mom, but what I've had a hard time reconciling is the fact that my mind has never been the same. All the things that come with motherhood and the mental load was almost too much from the very beginning."

While I joke about mommy's brain not working right, and my family jokes back about it - "Where is mommy's brain?" - it's the truth that my brain doesn't work the way it used to because I have to remember all MY stuff, my kid's stuff, and the stuff "our partner doesn't remember because of that pesky little selective hearing issue he has going on."

You might also understand this section of the book, or maybe a different section will affect you more. Whatever you take away from this book, just know that you're a good mom and you're doing it right.

The Mother Load is published by Dexterity and will be available to purchase tomorrow. I received a free review copy.
