Hang the Moon Book Review

Hang the Moon is the first book by Jeannette Walls that I've read, and I found it really interesting! Maybe a little slow to get started, but by the middle, I didn't want to put it down.

Sallie Kincaid was born into a prominent family. Her father, known as Duke, basically runs their small country town. But when Sallie and her younger half-brother get into a bit of trouble, Sallie is sent away to live with her aunt. It isn't until nine years later that she's summoned back to the Big House. Sallie is elated to return to her beloved father, but she's come back only because her stepmother, who disliked her, has died. If that tragedy wasn't enough for the family, the hits just keep on coming. And soon Sallie must learn how to navigate the world of her father, and get along with friends and foes, while also discovering more tragic family secrets.

This is a book about family secrets and strong women, about doing what's right and taking care of those who depend on you, about making your own family.

If you read this with a book club, I bet you'll have a good discussion about the women in your family history!

Hang the Moon is published by Scribner and will be available to purchase tomorrow, March 28, 2023. I received a free ARC.
