National Bake Cookies Day - Best Gluten-Free Cookie Recipes!

Are you a fan of National Days of the Year? Are you a fan of cookies? Then you'll love today because it's National Bake Cookies Day! Hopefully, you plan on baking cookies on Bake Cookies Day 2022! Whether you're baking cookies today or need some cookie recipes, cookie exchange ideas, or tips for how to host a cookie decorating party, today's cookie-themed blog post has you covered!

Let's start with the cookie recipes because that's where any national cookie day, cookie swap, and cookie party will start. Check out my Cookie Exchange Pinterest board for a variety of cookie recipes, some of which are gluten-free cookies, some are recipes I've made before, and some I can't wait to make!

But I definitely have some favorite cookie recipes, and because my family is gluten-free and dairy-free, that's how I make these cookie recipes. I'll tell you how I do it within the description of each recipe. For me, these are the seven best gluten-free cookie recipes, which is why I make them every year.

Gluten-Free Soft and Fluffy Cutout Sugar Cookies

This gluten-free cookie recipe is perfect for cookie decorating with kids. Pre-COVID we used to host a cookie decorating party, and this is the gluten-free cookies recipe I always made for the dough. No one could even tell that it was gluten-free! And to make it dairy-free, just sub in plant-based butter instead of regular butter.

Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies

I've made this recipe for cookie exchanges before, but I love these cookies so much that it is hard to share them. To make these chocolate chip cookies gluten-free, use gluten-free all-purpose flour. To make these cookies dairy-free, use plant-based butter and dairy-free chocolate chips, such as the ones from Enjoy Life.

Gooey Hot Chocolate Cookies

So the recipe that I have for these cookies comes from Sugar Plum Chocolates, and it's not available online. But I'm sure you can get similar results from this Hot Chocolate Cookies recipe from Averie Cooks. Once again, just sub in gluten-free all-purpose flour, dairy-free butter, and dairy-free chocolate.

Healthy Chocolate Chip Cookies

Maybe you're looking for delicious gluten-free cookies that are also healthy! That's what I love about these gluten-free chocolate chip cookies. Just seven ingredients and naturally gluten-free. I think this is an easy gluten-free chocolate chip cookies recipe, too. Make sure to use dairy-free chocolate so that this becomes a gluten-free dairy-free chocolate chip cookies recipe.

Santa's Favorite Cookies

If you want to take a gluten-free chocolate chip cookies recipe up a notch, then check out Santa's Favorite Cookies. These add chocolate candies and sprinkles! To make gluten-free, be sure to use gluten-free all-purpose flour. You can also use plant-based butter and dairy-free chocolate candies. These are great gluten-free Christmas cookies because of the red and green sprinkles and candies, however, you could use whatever color you want to make the cookies appropriate for different holidays and occasions.

Cowboy (or Cowgirl) Cookies

I used to give food gifts every year at Christmas, and back in 2013, I layered batches of dry ingredients inside mason jars so that people could make these cookies at home. Of course, you'll need to make substitutions in order to make these gluten-free: use gluten-free all-purpose flour and gluten-free cooking oats, and read the ingredients list on the chopped pecans. Gluten can often be a surprise ingredient in nuts, for some reason. If you need to make this dairy-free, as well, use dairy-free chocolate chips, plant-based butter, and dairy-free chocolate candies.

Fitness Magazine Chocolate Chip Cookies

I shared this recipe on the blog many years ago, and I'm glad I did because Fitness magazine no longer exists on the internet, nor does the original recipe. This easy chocolate chip cookie recipe is supposed to be healthier because it uses canola oil instead of butter. I don't know about that, but if you like chocolate chip cookies with a crunch, then you'll like this recipe. To make it gluten-free, use gluten-free all-purpose flour. To make it dairy-free, use dairy-free chocolate chips. (If you add the pecans, check the ingredients list for surprise gluten!)

Now that you've got your cookie recipes ready, it's time to get baking and decorating! If you need Christmas cookie exchange ideas or tips for how to do a cookie exchange at work, check out a blog post I wrote a few years ago with 4 Tips for Doing a Cookie Exchange. This post also answers the question of "what is a cookie exchange?" for those of you who have never done one! A cookie exchange party can be super low-key, and it's fun to make a booklet or email all of the cookie exchange recipes that were used so that others can try making their favorite cookies at home. If you have any Christmas cookie exchange party ideas, let me know in the comments!

You might also want to host a cookie-decorating party for adults or for kids! I wrote a blog post a few years ago on How to Host a Cookie Decorating Party, and I think the tips I shared are still relevant today. If you are uncomfortable throwing a large party, you can decorate via Zoom, which is also a good option for families and friends who live far away. Have you done cookie decorating with kids before? Leave a comment if you have tips for how to throw a holiday cookie decorating party.
