Stop Waiting for Permission Book Review

What do you need to give yourself permission to do? According to author Stephen Chandler, you need to stop waiting for permission to "harness your gifts, find your purpose, and unleash your personal genius".

Sounds like a big job, right?

Not if you read Chandler's new book Stop Waiting for Permission. In it, Chandler lays out a plan to help you discover your God-given passion and purpose, and use those to be great.

First of all, you need to know that it's not selfish or egotistical to want to be great at something. God wants you to be great, too! So no matter where you are on your journey, just get started on the path to greatness. Use what you have, find supportive people who can mentor and teach you, keep your focus, and don't worry about setbacks.

At the end of each chapter, Chandler synthesizes what you just read into bite-size closing thoughts. I really appreciated these sections because sometimes I needed a refresher of what I'd just read (if the chapter was long or if I had to stop reading in the middle of a chapter and come back to it later). Also, I know that each chapter had a focus, judging by the chapter titles, however, I felt like some of the chapters were trying to cover two topics at once, and that was a little confusing for me.

I do wish that there had been discussion questions at the end of each chapter, but those can be found in the Stop Waiting for Permission companion study guide, which is sold separately.

I liked reading this book and might have to get the study guide to help me take what I've learned and go deeper. It's not always easy to discover your passion or purpose, and this book isn't going to explicitly tell you what YOU should be doing. It's just a guide that requires you to take on some responsibility and stop holding yourself back.

Stop Waiting for Permission is published by Waterbrook. I received a free e-ARC in exchange for this review.
