National Candy Corn Day - 6 Candy Corn Halloween Crafts

Did you know that today is National Candy Corn Day?

I'm not sure why this disgusting candy gets its own day, but hey, I guess some of you out there like eating it, right? (I will allow candy corn when mixed with peanuts because the combination sort of tastes like a Payday candy bar.)

But if you don't like eating candy corn, what else can you do with it?

How about these cute candy corn crafts?

Candy Corn Centerpiece

I love these Halloween Candy Centerpieces from Ms. Toody Goo Shoes. I made something similar for Easter using Peeps and jelly beans. But those are candies that I like to eat, so I only wasted the deliciousness one time. Ha ha.

There's a trick, especially when using a tall glass container, to place an upside down plastic cup inside to boost up the candle and keep the candy on the outer edges instead of clumping into the center. How to Homeschool My Child also suggests using an empty paper towel tube.

Candy Corn Flower Craft

The Resourceful Mama has a cute candy corn craft for kids to do. Use candy corn to create flowers! All you need are chenille stems for the flower stems, buttons for the flower center, and candy corn for the flower petals.

Candy Corn Picture Frame

You could also use candy corn pieces to decorate a picture frame, like this one from The Chirping Moms. Whether placing a yearly fall photo inside the frame or framing a favorite fall quote, this picture frame would be a great fall decor item. Hang it with a black ribbon for an extra spooky touch!

Candy Corn Play Dough

Did you know you can melt candy corn and turn it into edible play dough? You can if you follow this recipe for Edible Candy Corn Playdough from 123 Homeschool 4 Me. I can't imagine eating it after my kiddo's hands have been all over it, so maybe you'll want to make two batches: one for playing and one for eating.

Candy Corn Haunted Scene

If you love decorating Gingerbread Houses during Christmastime, then how about decorating spooky scenes with candy around Halloween? I love this pinned image from Maddycakes Muse (website no longer exists) of black licorice trees inside a fence of candy corn! What other candy and food items can you use to decorate your scene?

Candy Corn Learning

When I was doing "kid school" with my daughter, I frequently used things like marshmallows, Lucky Charms cereal, and M&Ms as learning pieces and sweet treats. You can do the same with candy corn and these free preschool printables from This Reading Mama. Kids can use candy corn to trace the shape of letters and practice counting!

Kids will also like this Candy Corn Stacking Challenge from Lessons 4 Little Ones. It's a great way to incorporate STEM learning in everyday play.

These are just a few ways to use candy corn if you don't want to eat it. And for more Halloween ideas that go beyond candy corn crafts, make sure to follow my Halloween Pinterest board!
