Earth Day is right around the corner, and if you need more Earth Day activities for kids, check out these fun ideas from the Toy Industry Association's Genius of Play program. (I'm one of their play ambassadors!)
This Earth Day project, suitable for ages 3 and up, involves planting a seed in a clear plastic cup. Gardening is a great way to teach children about plants, and it can also be a lesson in patience and responsibility.
Kids ages 4 and up can learn about recycling and taking care of the environment by observing real worms tunneling through the earth. Yes, I said REAL worms. You can find them in your backyard or purchase them from a gardening store.
This is another fun Earth Day activity for ages 3 and up. You can collect supplies from nature (leaves, flowers, etc.), and then cut them in half. This gets kids thinking about nature's symmetry and design, as they draw and color the missing half of each piece.
If you've already done the Mini Greenhouse project and still have seeds that you'd like to use, why not go a bit bigger and plant those seeds in a planter? Kids can decorate the planter by painting it, and then plant the seed inside with soil and water.
I hope these activities inspire you to get outside, learn about the environment, and have fun!
