This book needs to come with a disclaimer: do not read on an empty stomach! Some readers might like the steamy sex scenes of Savvy Sheldon Feels Good as Hell, but I liked the steam from what was cooking on the stovetop! Where are the recipes, Taj McCoy???
The novel starts out with Savvy getting dumped by her no-good boyfriend simply because she's focused on her career (she's in the running for a big promotion) and she's fat. This, of course, devastates her because she's invested many years in this relationship, and it doesn't feel good to be body-shamed! So Savvy decides to change her life. Work is still a priority, but so is exercise, eating right, changing up her hair, and getting a revenge body.
In the process of doing all of this, Savvy meets a new man, but she's unsure if she's ready to take the steps to start something with him. You can probably guess how it all works out, even though the author tries to throw a little hiccup into the mix, and Savvy feels "good as hell" because everything is just wonderful in her life by book's end.
While the predictable storyline just wasn't for me, I did like the female empowerment that Savvy gets from her girlfriends and that all of the book's characters are people of color. In fact, the author is "committed to championing plus-size Black love stories and characters" in her books.
Savvy Sheldon Feels Good as Hell is published by Mira Books and will be available to purchase on 3/22/22. I received a free review copy.
