How to Build a Smile Book Review

In How to Build a Smile, Robert M. Cole, MD, lays out 14 steps to becoming a better you. Through his experience as an ICU doctor, Cole has learned a lot from his patients and their families about what it takes to remain positive. This is yet another book written during the Coronavirus pandemic that addresses the mental and physical toll COVID-19 has taken on people. But if you can change the way you look at the world, see the big picture, have patience, and remain present (among many other tips), you'll be able to wear a smile on your face through even the hardest times.

This would be a great book to read with a book club, as members can discuss which steps resonated most with them, some real-world applications of each step, and offer positive support. One of the steps is to surround yourself with the right people, after all!

How to Build a Smile is a small book, and therefore, a pretty easy read. You might want to keep it out on your nightstand and go through one chapter each night, or one chapter each week - however long you want to let Cole's words marinate in your mind.

I think that building a smile is like any good habit that must be formed. It takes time! So don't expect to be automatically changed as soon as you finish the book. You must take these tips and put them into action until they start to become like second nature.

How to Build a Smile is published by RMC Publishing Company and is available to purchase now. I received a free review copy in exchange for this review.
