Majesty Book Review

Last year I was a big fan of Katharine McGee's first American Royals book, so when I got an email about receiving a free review copy of its sequel, I immediately hit reply "yes".

Majesty picks up where we left off: the king has died and now his eldest daughter Beatrice will be queen. There has never been a female leader before, and despite all her training, Beatrice isn't sure how to be queen. She wants to please the country, but at what cost? She had already been planning on calling off her engagement to Teddy so she could run off with Connor, but now that her father has died, she feels bound by duty to country.

Meanwhile, Sam is still jealous and trying to find her place in the royal family, Nina is moving on from her broken heart, and Daphne is still scheming to be Prince Jefferson's princess.

I really liked how these books only focus on the female point of view. Even with all the relationships and falling in and out of love, these books are pretty empowering. And this one has some pretty good messages about standing up for yourself, living your life for no one else but you, and not letting men decide things for you.

I think these books would be great holiday gifts for any YA fan ages 14 and up.

Majesty is published by Random House Books for Young Readers and is on bookstore shelves now. I received a free review copy in exchange for my honest review.
