4 Best Rock Painting Kits for Kids

When the COVID-19 stay-at-home orders came down in my state, we spent a lot of time outdoors enjoying the spring weather. We did a lot of sidewalk chalking in our driveway, creating fun and positive messages for anybody walking past our house.

But now that it's fall and the weather is getting cooler, playing outside with sidewalk chalk doesn't sound like much fun. Still, we want to get creative while also sharing positivity with our neighbors. So what can we do?

Rock painting! Maybe you've heard of The Kindness Rocks movement where you paint rocks and leave them out in your neighborhood for others to find. The rocks have positive messages on them or just fun pictures. Kids, as well as adults, can get creative painting rocks and sharing their art with others.

If you don't really know where to start (where do I buy the right rocks? what do I paint?), then head over to the Zulily blog for some great rock painting tips.

You can also purchase a rock painting kit that comes with everything you need, including rocks. I've reviewed several of these rocks during my time as a toy reviewer at TTPM, and these are some of my favorite kits.

Hide & Seek Rock Painting Kit from Creativity for Kids
This kit comes with two paintbrushes and 10 rocks, so if you have two people who want to paint, each one can take five rocks and one paintbrush. If you're not very good at freehand painting, there are weather-resistant transfer designs and stickers to make a rock that looks really cool.

Galaxy Rock Art and Mandala Rock Art from Horizon Group USA
These kits are pretty specific with what kids can design. The Galaxy kit lets kids create glittery designs, while the Mandala kit is all about making mandala designs.

Holiday Hide & Seek Rock Painting Kit from Creativity for Kids
The holidays are approaching, and maybe you want to spread some holiday cheer. This seasonal craft lets you paint rocks with paint or weather-resistant transfers.

Metallic Mania Rock Art from Cra-Z-Art
This is a new twist on rock painting. The kit uses metallic paint and glittery gems for major rock bling. It's a lot of fun!

Have you ever painted rocks and left them for others to find? Share your experiences and designs in the comments!
