Happy Halloween! You know I love a good holiday craft. I also love doing easy crafts for kids with my 4-year-old, and do you know what is one of the easiest kid crafts ever?
Anything made with a paper plate.
You betcha! Just take a plain ole white paper plate - the kind that you get 100 of for, like, $1.50 - and turn it into all sorts of things.
And in the meantime, here is a Halloween-themed paper plate craft that my daughter and I recently made.
Supplies:
- white paper plate
- orange paint (or an orange dot marker, orange regular marker, or orange crayon)
- brown, green, and black construction paper
- pen or pencil
- paintbrush (if you're using the orange paint)
- glue
How to make the paper plate pumpkin:
I'm sure you can probably already guess what to do, but just in case you need something more step-by-step, here is how we made our pumpkins.
1. Paint the paper plate orange. (Or color it in, dot marker it, etc. This is totally dependent on how messy you want the craft to be or what medium your child wishes to use.)
2. While the paint dries, draw and cut out triangles from the black construction paper. These will be your pumpkin's eyes and nose.
3. And go ahead and draw and cut out a mouth from the black construction paper. Any shape and size work.
4. From the brown construction paper, cut out a stem.
5. From the green construction paper, cut out a leaf or vine-like shape.
6. When the paint is fully dried (or dry enough), glue on all the paper plate shapes. Don't worry if your kid puts one triangle on top and two triangles on the bottom or whatever. Doesn't matter. This is THEIR paper plate pumpkin, and if you want to make a paper plate pumpkin that actually looks like a pumpkin, make one yourself.
And that's it! See? Wasn't that easy? And I'm sure you already have the necessary supplies to make this craft at home.
Just thinking that another fun twist would be to glue squares of orange tissue paper on the paper plate for a mosaic effect. I never have spare tissue paper in colors other than white, green, and red (you know, for wrapping Christmas presents), but I should probably add colorful tissue paper to my kid's art supplies.
What are some other fun craft ideas for kids that you have made a paper plate?
