Night-Night - Book Review

Do you have a kid who never wants to go to sleep? Do you frequently hear "I'm thirsty" or "I want to rock in the rocking chair for a few minutes"?

The tips in Cynthia MacGregor's Night-Night: Settle Down Activities for Easy Bedtimes might solve your bedtime woes.

In this book, MacGregor combines a variety of bedtime activities to help kids settle down and go to sleep. The whole point of many of these activities is to put kids in a good frame of mind so that they'll relax and go to sleep. There are stories, games, songs/lullabies, and soft and gentle thinking exercises. Some activities will work with children of all ages, while others are best for older or younger kids.

I definitely want to try the Alpha Journeys activity where you take turns thinking of something that starts with each letter of the alphabet. I also liked asking the child to list her favorite things, to say what is best about different jobs, to tell a story about where their magic bed will take them, and answer a variety of imagination-stretching questions.

There are enough examples in here that you can do something different each night, or if you find something that works for your kid and that he really likes, just keep doing that. Hopefully, these can turn going to bed into a positive thing and not a battle.

Night-Night: Settle Down Activities for Easy Bedtimes is published by Conari Press and is on bookstore shelves now. I received a free review copy in exchange for a review.
