As I've mentioned before, this summer's Kid School theme is Alphabet Summer. We're going through a different letter of the alphabet each week, and while we won't get through all 26 letters, we can still talk about the entire alphabet through books. We just happened to have some books in our home library that were perfect for this theme!
My Awesome Alphabet Book
This is a big book and not super comfortable for parents to hold and read, BUT every page is shaped like a letter and shows pictures of things that start with that letter.
G is for Garden State
Now, if you're not from New Jersey, you obviously don't have to read this New Jersey-themed alphabet book. But luckily, Sleeping Bear Press has a whole series of alphabet state books that give kids A to Z fun facts about where they live.
Mickey Mouse Clubhouse My First Words
This book actually came in a book set with a "SmartPad" that plays letters, numbers, and sound effects. Even without the SmartPad, you can still read the book and just spell out the words yourself. But if you have the SmartPad, kids find the letters, press the letters, and hear the letters and the word they just spelled said out loud.
Sandra Boynton's A to Z
If you don't have any Sandra Boynton in your collection, let this be your first book. Boynton illustrates animals doing different actions, going from A - Aardvark admiring all the way to Z - Zebra zigzagging.
Dr. Seuss's ABC An Amazing Alphabet Book
I prefer the board book version of this one because it's shorter. But either way you slice it, kids get the entertaining Dr. Seuss illustrations along with recognizing uppercase and lowercase letters, and seeing things that start with those letters.
Reading books is such a great way to build a child's vocabulary, and when you're reading books specifically about the letters of the alphabet, it also helps kids with letter recognition!
What other alphabet books do your kids like?
