Boop-Oop-a-Doop! It's Betty Boop's 90th anniversary, and she's learned a thing or two during her 90 years of pop culture stardom. In the new book Betty Boop's Guide to a Bold and Balanced Life, Betty shares some of her wisdom with the world. The book is, as the subtitle says, filled with "fun, fierce, fabulous advice inspired by the animated icon".

Authors and empowerment advocates Susan Wilking Horan and Kristi Ling Spencer channel the cartoon woman in 10 chapters of Boop-inspired advice, covering topics from independence, love, and kindness to confidence, humor, and respect. These are topics that are important to women in today's world and that have always been a part of Betty's long life.

And, of course, there are animated photos of Betty, both old and new, making this almost a collectible piece for Betty Boop fans.

The forward by fashion designer Zac Posen offers some Betty Boop history, especially important for the younger generation who may not even know who she is. I was familiar with Betty Boop, but I didn't know that she ran for president in 1932 - the first female, animated or not, to do so!

This book is an entertaining take on self-help, but don't think that it's all entertainment and gloss. It's purpose really is to help you find balance and joy so you can live your best life. And hopefully it's a long one, just like Betty's.

Betty Boop's Guide to a Bold and Balanced Life is published by Skyhorse and is on bookstore shelves today. I received a review copy in exchange for this review.
