Sadie - Book Review

When Mattie is murdered, her older sister Sadie goes on a journey to avenge Mattie's death. Told through the eyes of Sadie as it happens and through the eyes of a podcaster as he tries to uncover the truth of what happened to Mattie and what has happened to Sadie, Courtney Summers' new YA novel Sadie will keep you in suspense until the very end.

Sadie was a much buzzed-about book at this year's Book Expo. I attended the Young Adult Buzz Panel and got to hear Summers talk about her book, and it really struck a chord with me. I loved the idea of familial relationship between Mattie and Sadie, between Mattie and her mother, and between Claire and her mother. And then there's the whodunit aspect. You're hearing Sadie's side of the story, so you're uncovering things along with her, but you're also fast-forwarding to the present and uncovering things along with West McCray, the radio personality who has turned detective to find both girls for his podcast.

This would also raise great discussion for a book club, talking about what you would do in Sadie's situation and the difference between each of the settings that Sadie visits, just to name a few things.

You don't have to be into YA to enjoy reading this book. It's going to span ages. If you just like good murder mysteries, then I think you'll like Sadie.

Sadie is published by Wednesday Books and is on bookstores shelves today. I received a free advance review copy at Book Expo.
