If you're looking for a book that will get your teen reading this summer, then may I introduce you to Vanessa, Phoebe, and Callie, the three main characters of the cute and quirky book The Pros of Cons. Written by Alison Cherry, Lindsay Ribar, and Michelle Schusterman, this book takes readers to a convention center in Florida where a variety of conventions are going on. And it's here that our heroines convene and their lives converge.
Vanessa is at a fan-fic convention where she is excited to meet her internet girlfriend for the first time. Phoebe is at a percussion competition with her school where she is excited to compete in a solo drumming competition. And Callie is at a taxidermy convention with her dad, where she is excited to have some much-needed bonding time with him.
However, all of their excitement starts to fade when things don't go according to plan. Luckily, the three of them meet, and they come up with a new plan to turn their failed trips into something a lot more memorable.
This is a great book for anyone who has felt like an outsider or for anyone who has been in awkward situations or for anyone who has just needed a friend. I think most kids and adults can relate! It's for ages 12 and up, and I think that's super appropriate.
The Pros of Cons is on bookstore shelves now and is published by Point, an imprint of Scholastic. I received a free review copy for my honest opinion.
