The Better Mom - Book Review

Ruth Schwenk's The Better Mom isn't a guidebook on how to be the perfect mom. But if you've ever felt like you don't have enough time for yourself, or you worry too much about your kids, or your home is a mess, or you're at a really hard stage of life, then you might want to read the wisdom in this book. Through her own experiences raising four kids and through scripture, Schwenk helps you see that these common "momming" pitfalls don't have to bring you down.

It's not an overnight process, of course. You won't read this book and immediately your whole life will change. It will take some effort on your part to make time for Jesus and surround yourself with like-minded moms, and jut remember that God is working in you and with you to help you become the woman you're supposed to be.

This would be a great book for a moms group to read as part of a church Bible study or book club. It will certainly stir up a lot of discussion, as I know that every mom has stories to tell regarding each of the theme in the book. And reading it as a group would also satisfy one of Schwenk's key piece of advice to have a solid mom community. Unfortunately, that is something that is so hard to come by when you're an adult. I recently saw a Twitter post that said something like, "No one mentioned the miracle of Jesus having 12 friends at the age of 30."

Needless to say, I will add this book to my growing collection of mom books and refer back to it when I need some scriptural inspiration and support.
