I Will Blossom Anyway Book Review

Based. on an art exhibit about immigrants, I Will Blossom Anyway by Disha Bose is about the dual lives of Durga. Living in Ireland, Durga has a job, a best friend, and a love life. But in India, Durga has a family married to tradition who wants to see Durga married, too. As Durga's sister's wedding approaches, tragedy strikes in Durga's life, and once she arrives in India for the wedding, she faces regrets - for the lies and omissions she's told her family and for not being brave enough for her ex-boyfriend. Where can Durga find a life that is all hers? Where can Durga find a place that feels like home?

This was a slow read for me that did start to pick up at the end. Even if you're not an immigrant, you can probably relate to the feeling of wanting to please your parents but also wanting them to butt out. It was interesting to see Durga blossom throughout the story.

I Will Blossom Anyway is published by Ballantine Books and is available on bookstore shelves now. I received a free e-ARC for this review.
