One Italian Summer Book Review

Get your summer beach reading on early with tomorrow's release of the new novel One Italian Summer by Rebecca Serle. I remember requesting a review copy from the publisher, but once I received it, I couldn't remember what it was about. And I'm so glad I jumped right in because if I had read the synopsis in advance, I probably wouldn't have been so eager.

Imagine if you could go back in time and meet a lost loved one. That's what happens to Katy Silver one summer. She's supposed to go on vacation to Italy with her mother, but her mother has just died. Now Katy finds herself alone in Italy, leaving behind a husband she's not sure she still wants. Her mother's death has made Katy rethink everything.

Once in Italy, though, it became clear that Positano (where she's staying) is truly magical, not just in the beautiful scenery but in the fact that Katy has found her mother! This is the place her mother spent a magical summer of her own back when she was in her 30s, and so here she is - Katy's 30-year-old mother. As Katy spends time with her mother, and a new male friend also staying at her hotel, she begins to learn things about herself and what she really wants out of life. She also begins to learn things about her mother.

As someone whose mom has passed away, there were passages in this book that really hit home. My mom was not a mirror image of Katy's mom, but the pain of losing someone you were so close to is still relevant.

This is a beautifully written novel that makes me want to travel!

One Italian Summer is published by Atria Books and will be available to purchase starting tomorrow (3/1/22)! I received a free review copy in exchange for this review.
