Valentine's Crafts for Kids

Back when I was doing my own version of at-home preschooling (thanks, COVID), I was a sucker for any holiday-themed activity for kids. So I've compiled quite a list of Valentine's crafts for kids that I think your kids will like doing just as much as mine.

Even though my kiddo is in school, where she'll probably be doing a buttload of Valentine crafts for kids, I'm still planning on doing a few of these Valentine's Day crafts with her at home. And who knows? We might even be able to turn these activities into Valentine's Day cards for her classmates!

Unicorn Heart Craft

We've been really big on unicorns in my house, so this unicorn-themed craft from Glued to My Crafts was perfect to do on a snowy day off of school. Out of either craft foam or construction paper, cut out a heart to be the unicorn's face. Then use other foam or paper pieces, plus additional decor bits in your craft stash, to add ears, eyes, mouth/nose, and hair!

Valentine's Day Puppy Dog

If you don't want to do the drawing and cutting yourself, make it really easy with this free printable from Simple Mom Project. Print out the template, color it in, cut it out, and glue it together for a super cute and easy Valentine's Day dog project.

Crayon Resist Watercolor Painting

This is one of my favorite Valentine's Day crafts for kids and general activities because it is so easy. With a white crayon, draw hearts or a nice message on a white piece of paper. (Construction paper works great, as does printer paper.) Then have kids use watercolors to paint the paper, and as they do, they'll reveal what you wrote.

Paper Plate Love Monster

We really enjoy the Love Monster books by Rachel Bright and so had a lot of fun making this paper plate craft from Glued to My Crafts. If easy Valentine crafts are what you're looking for, then you'll love this, too. You'll need a paper plate, red tissue paper squares, black construction paper, white construction paper, red construction paper, a black marker, scissors, and a glue stick. Glue the tissue paper onto the plate. Then add white paper eyes, a black paper mouth, and white paper teeth. On the eyes, draw in pupils with the black marker. Then add pointy red paper ears. Hang and display your love monster!

Scissor Skills Valentine's Day Card

This activity from Twitchetts is a good one for younger kids because it works fine motor skills while also resulting in DIY valentines for kids. Kids cut strips of paper in whatever colors they want, and then glue them to a blank piece of paper. With the help of an adult, cut a heart out of white paper. Glue the heart-shaped hole that's left behind on top of the paper strips, making a window to show the colorful paper strips.

Heart Puppets

Last year, we made these Valentine crafts from Creative Family Fun. This is another easy craft for kids. All you need are popsicle sticks, construction paper, stickers, markers, glitter, and googly eyes. Cut hearts out of construction paper and decorate them however you want. Adhere them to a popsicle stick.

Bumblebee Heart Craft

I love Valentine's Day paper crafts because we always have printer paper and construction paper (and scrapbook paper!) at our house. So prepping this heart-shaped craft from Crafty Morning is super easy. You just need white, black, and yellow construction paper. Depending on the age of your kids, cut the paper into the necessary shapes beforehand or let your kids do it. Then glue together the construction paper pieces on the heart-shaped bee body.

From the Pond Coloring Pages

Coloring pages are easy Valentine's Day ideas for kids, and you'll find coloring pages for all sorts of themes, not just Valentine's Day, at From the Pond. My daughter loves to color, and I like the variety of Valentine images for kids at this website.

Butterfly Heart Craft

There are lots of different ways you could make this Valentine's Day craft for kids. Last year, we took inspiration from I Heart Arts N Crafts when making ours. Draw and cut out two hearts from a piece of construction paper and turn the hearts on their sides so they become wings. (I printed out a heart template from Simple Mom Project.) Glue or tape your wings together, and then glue a popsicle stick (or toilet paper roll, paper towel roll, plastic spoon - whatever you have!) in the center. Decorate!

The Day It Rained Hearts Cloud Craft

Last year we read the book The Day It Rained Hearts and accompanied it with yet another one of the amazing Valentine's Day kids crafts from Glued to My Crafts. Ours didn't turn out exactly like the example shown, but it was easily adaptable to the supplies we had: paper plate, white tissue paper, and hearts cut out of red construction paper.
