Must Read Books 2022: Books About Books

It's almost the end of the year, and you know what that means: 2022 book releases are coming soon! A few weeks ago, I attended the virtual Reading Group Guides Book Group Speed Dating event, which is always a blast. I picked up some e-ARCs and added a whole bunch of books to my to-read list! Over the course of the next few weeks, I'm going to share with you some of the books that I think will be the most anticipated books of 2022 for your book club or just for personal enjoyment!

This week's theme: Books About Books

During the presentation, I made a few notes whenever I started to detect a theme among the books being presented. One of those themes was books that were about books. Fun, right? So here's what you can expect in 2022 if you're interested in reading about this theme.

The Department of Rare Books and Special Collections by Eva Jurczyk (Sourcebooks)

In this book, with comparisons to Fredrik Backman's Anxious People, a librarian's quiet life is turned upside down when a priceless manuscript goes missing. No one else seems that concerned, but then a librarian goes missing, and our main character must investigate both disappearances herself.

The Woman in the Library by Sulari Gentill (Sourcebooks)

Pub date: 6/7/22

Four strangers sitting at the same table in the Boston Public Library's reading room are brought together when a murder takes place in the library. Each has his or her own reasons for being at the library that morning, and one of them is a murderer.

Must Love Books by Shauna Robinson (Sourcebooks)

Nora is going through a job crisis as an editorial assistant for a book publisher. Trying to make ends meet, she starts doing freelance work for a rival publisher. Then she meets Andrew, a bestselling author with Nora's previous publisher, and Nora must decide where her loyalties lie.

The Book Woman's Daughter by Kim Michele Richardson (Sourcebooks)

Pub date: 5/3/22

This is a sequel to Richardson's The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek. Honey is the daughter of the Troublesome Creek packhorse librarian, and she begins to deliver books along her mother's old route. Butting up against locals who don't think women should have as much freedom, Honey must pave her own way to make a difference in the world.

The Diamond Eye by Kate Quinn (William Morrow)

Pub date: 3/29/22

This book is based on the true story of a Russian bookworm who goes from studious girl to deadly sniper during World War II. "Lady Death" as she's known goes on a goodwill trip to America where she befriends Eleanor Roosevelt and a fellow sniper. Happiness looms until "Lady Death" must battle her own demons.

The Book Eaters by Sunyi Dean (Tom Doherty Associates)

Pub date: 8/9/22

In this futuristic novel, books are food, and you retain the knowledge of whatever book you eat. In this world, girls are raised on a diet of fairy tales and cautionary tales. But real life doesn't always come with happy endings. The book's main character, Devon, gives birth to a son who's hunger is not for books but for human minds.

So tell me, which of these 2022 book releases sound good to you? I can't wait to read them all!
