3 New Milk Alternatives

When I went dairy-free a few years ago, I stuck with almond milk. I like the taste of it, it's easy to find at the grocery store, and you can purchase it refrigerated or shelf-stable. (It's always something I make sure to have in our pantry just in case.)

But I recently came across a few new milk alternatives that I've really been enjoying, and I wanted to share them with you.

a2 Milk

I haven't officially been diagnosed with lactose intolerance. But when I told my doctor what my symptoms were and how avoiding dairy made me feel better, she agreed that an aversion to lactose was most likely the culprit.

However, a2 Milk has made me rethink everything! If you're looking for milk alternatives that taste like milk, then you'll like a2. This is real cows' milk that only comes from cows producing the A2 protein. The company says that originally, all cows only produced milk with this protein, but over time, genetic variation has caused an A1 protein to develop, resulting in most milk today containing both proteins. But some people, including people who think it's all about the lactose, can't tolerate the A1 protein.

You can find more information about a2 Milk at their website. So far, I've been drinking the 2% Reduced Fat A2 Milk in my cereal with no digestive issues. I received a free sample from the manufacturer.

Planet Oat Oatmilk

I have to admit that I was a little skeptical about oat milk. But when my local ShopRite had a deal where you got a pint of Planet Oat ice cream for free when you bought two cartons of the Planet Oak milk, I felt like I couldn't pass it up.

I bought the regular unsweetened oat milk and the dark chocolate oat milk. The regular oat milk is a bit thicker than traditional milk or almond milk, but it tastes good in cereal. And the dark chocolate oat milk... OMG! I have been drinking a glass of it as dessert every night. It is SO good!

Planet Oat makes its milk from oats, so it's dairy-free, as well as being gluten-free, nut-free, and soy-free.

I've had chocolate almond milk before and didn't like it, but chocolate oat milk? Yes, please. My first sip tasted a little oat-y, but I like oatmeal, have it every morning for breakfast, so it wasn't an unpleasant flavor. This makes me excited to taste the oat milk cookie dough ice cream that's waiting in my freezer.

Three Tree Organics

Speaking of almond milk, that's what Three Tree Organics makes, along with pistachio nut milk, black sesame nut and seed almond milk, and oat and seed oat milk. Each version of milk is made with organic ingredients, four times more protein than the leading brand, and without gums, oils, and natural flavors.

I haven't had the chance to sample this dairy-free milk yet, although it is available at nearby health food stores. I like that the company makes a variety of different kinds of milk to suit different tastes and that its oat milk is made from organic gluten-free oats.

These are some of the best milk alternatives I've recently discovered. Do you guys have a favorite milk alternative? Let me know in the comments!
