If you've ever been pregnant, then you'll be able to commiserate with the protagonist of Emma Pattee's novel Tilt, which I received for free to review. The pressure to find the right crib. The well-meaning comments from strangers. The "mom brain".
But have you ever been 37 weeks pregnant during an earthquake?
That's the premise of Tilt. Pattee uses knowledge about the impending Cascadia earthquake to create a story about a pregnant woman who is one moment just shopping for a crib in IKEA and the next moment walking barefoot and bloody through Portland trying to find her husband.
It's a scary prospect, for sure. If you read this book with a book club, you'll probably want to discuss preparedness tips for any natural disaster and how you'd feel/what you'd do if you were alone without access to a phone or car in a similar situation.
There was one part in the book, toward the end, that almost brought me to tears. The part about her mom trying to sell her handmade bird figures. *sob*
You'll understand when you get to that part, and you WILL get to the part because you will want to read this book as soon as it comes out on March 7.
Tilt is published by Marysue Ricci Books and will be available to purchase on March 25, 2025. I received a free ARC.
