The London Seance Society Book Review

I enjoyed Sarah Penner's previous novel The Lost Apothecary, so when given the chance to review her next novel, I, of course, said yes!

In The London Seance Society, popular medium Vaudeline is recalled back to London from Paris, where she's been in hiding after a mysterious business she doesn't talk about, to help determine the killer of her former friend and fellow spiritualist. That's what Vaudeline does - uses her power to help name killers.

Vaudeline returns along with her protege Lenna, whose sister was recently murdered. Lenna hopes that Vaudeline will hold a seance to determine her sister's killer, as well.

But the story isn't just about these two women and their unlikely friendship. It's also about men. The character representing the men in the story is Mr. Morley, a vice-president of The London Seance Society, which is comprised of all men. No women allowed.

The story is very tricky, as you discover how all the characters are connected and try to figure out each person's motives. Who is telling the truth? And who will survive to tell the truth?

This is a novel about power - about the men who desire power and what they are willing to do to keep it. And, of course, it's about women - their friendships, their desires, and their strength to take down the men.

The London Seance Society is published by Park Row and is available to purchase now. I received a free review copy.
