The Last Saxon King Book Review

Andrew Varga's The Last Saxon King pleasantly surprised me! In this first book of a new series, we meet 16-year-old Daniel, a homeschooled kid whose college professor father sure does focus a lot on history. And we soon learn why when Daniel time-travels back to England in 1066. Daniel's father never told him anything about time travel or how Daniel comes from a long line of timejumpers, men who go back in time to fix any glitches in the timeline. (I was getting some Marvel Loki vibes from this.)

With the help of a fellow timejumper named Sam and all the knowledge his father gave him, Daniel learns how to survive in the past and what he needs to do to save the timeline and get back home. But getting home won't be the end of Daniel's troubles.

I liked the action and twists and turns this novel took. Varga may ask you to suspend your disbelief on some things, but I enjoyed how vividly he portrayed the 1066 time period and all the characters Sam and Daniel encounter. The book may seem like it's full of testosterone, but rest assured, there is female power represented, too. I'm eager to see what happens and where Daniel goes next in the second book, which comes out in September!

The Last Saxon King is published by Imbrifex Books and is available now to purchase. I received a free review copy.
