Summer Fun

So, no pictures to share yet of the new home. I'm waiting to get a good one of the hubs and I in front of it and then I want to email it to everyone with our new address. First, I need to figure out how to get that picture taken of us and then I need for us to have internet.

Lack of internet hasn't stopped me from getting you some scrapbook layouts, though! I told you I would and here ya go! The above, "Summer Fun," is based on a sketch from Inspired Blueprints. I used up some old stuff (because that's all I seem to have these days), including American Crafts, Scenic Route (does this company even make scrapbook supplies anymore??) and Making Memories. The cool "summer fun" title is actually a photo transparency that I got from Sarah de Guzman after winning a giveaway several months ago.

And here's a two-pager I did over the weekend. "Hollywood Homes" is based on a sketch from The Scrappiest and I turned it into two pages. Papers are American Crafts and so is everything else on this, actually.

Both of these layouts feature pictures from my honeymoon, which was last year. It's almost been one year since that fateful trip! Hard to believe. Honeymoon Part Deux happens soon. I'm looking forward to that A LOT! Of course, I should probably finish my first honeymoon album (and wedding album... ack) before I start scrapping any other vacation pictures.

Thanks for taking a peek today! Can't wait for Friday - use up a gift card at Panera, get a new library card and some books, and replenish my scrapbook adhesive supply at Michael's! Yay for four-day weekends! What are you guys doing for Memorial Day?

Daily Thought

I subscribe to the Real Simple Daily Thought email (there's an idea for a Christmas/birthday present for me - a subscription to Real Simple magazine!) and have found that the quotes are not only inspirational, but also really good for using on scrapbook layouts. Sometimes a really great quote can say more than any journaling I could ever come up with.

Take this quote, for example, that I used on a self-portrait LO: "Over the years I have learned that what is important in a dress is the woman who is wearing it." - Yves Saint Laurent

Or this one: "A laugh is a smile that bursts." - Mary H. Waldrip

(I love the design of this one. I need to scraplift myself!)

And a more recent layout: "There is something about a wedding gown prettier than any other gown in the world." - Douglas William Jerrold

Even if you don't know the person who said the quote, which happens to me often, Google their name and find out more about them. Or use the quote anyway. Doesn't matter who said it. It was said and said well!

So I'm sharing with you the quote from today and maybe you'll be able to use it on a layout:
"Not everything that is faced can be changed. But nothing can be changed until it is faced." - James Arthur Baldwin

Handwrite it, type it up and print it out, or find a quote and just let it inspire a theme for your layout. How you choose to use it is up to you! Let me know how it goes. I'd love to see and read some of your favorite quotes.

The weekend

My back is killing me from lifting boxes and unpacking. My butt is killing me from the walk I took through the neighborhood - so many hills! But at least this weekend was productive.

I sort of feel like pulling an Otho from Beetlejuice and spray painting on the walls the changes I want to make: "mauve" on this wall, "teal" on this wall, etc.

Until the painting and other renovations happen, here are a few items that I'm currently jonesing for:

http://www.brookstone.com/changing-valet-for-handheld-electronics.html

This would be perfect for the little desk we have in the kitchen - all our devices and our mail could go here! How nice to have everything in one location.

And this would look nice in my closet, don't you think? Size small, please.

Also really love this. Just perfect for summer. I've decided that dresses need to be my thing, aside from my jeans, of course. Skirts just don't really work for me, but dresses... yes, they work nicely.

Hopefully I'll be able to post some scrapbook pictures soon. I got quite a few pages done yesterday (in my scrap room! ee!) before I ran out of adhesive. Still no internet at home, but I'll devise a way to get the pictures posted! Just you wait!

The hits just keep on coming

There's a reason for everything, right?

Now I'm going to answer these:

One hour ago...
I was walking down the sidewalk.
Three hours ago... I was drinking apple juice and taking my Zyrtec.
Six hours ago...I was sleeping.
Twelve hours ago...I was getting ready for bed.
Twenty-four hours ago...I was on the internet.
Three days ago... I moved into my new home.
A week ago... I was eating lunch at Panera.
A month ago... I was stressed and busy at work.
Six months ago... I was cold because it was December.
A year ago... I was a newlywed.
Five years ago... I had just gotten back from studying abroad in England.
Ten years ago... I was a sophomore in high school and madly in love with Backstreet Boys and Blink 182.
Twenty years ago... I don't really remember much about being 6.
Thirty years ago... I wasn't yet formed.

Finally...

It happened! We are now the owners of a townhouse. How exciting! I don't have any pictures b/c we got in to our place late last night and we have no internet yet (and won't until Memorial Day weekend) but as soon as I'm able to post something, I will.

Also, anyone have a wrench they can lend me so I can tighten up a pipe and stop a leak? Yes, there is a not-constant leak in our furnace room that I discovered this morning. Ah, the joys of home ownership.

And now for something fun:

1 - What MUST you wear for your weekend-kicking-around-clothes?
It depends. I like jeans and a T-shirt, but I've also started wearing my yoga pants and T-shirts on lazy Sundays when I don't even style my hair b/c who is there at Walmart that I'm really trying to impress?

2 - What is your “quote” for life?
I'm still working on this one: 2 Corinthians 4:17-18 (New Living Translation)
For our present troubles are quite small and won't last very long. Yet they produce for us an immeasurably great glory that will last forever! So we don't look at the troubles we can see right now; rather, we look forward to what we have not yet seen. For the troubles we see will soon be over, but the joys to come will last forever.

3 - If you knew your next meal would be your last, what would you eat?
Taco Bell beef supreme chalupas no tomatoes, Milky Way bars, Three Musketeers bars, sprite, Gingerale, cookie dough ice cream, cookie dough from the tube... that sounds good

4 - What do you think is the greatest invention of our time?
cell phones

5 - You have one day of uninterrupted time alone. What will you do?
Scrapbook! Read a book! Watch TV! Scrapbook! Eat!

6 - The beach, the mountains, the desert, the farm country – all are just 30 minutes from you. Which way will you go? Why?
This is tough. I like the beach b/c I like reading books on the beach, but I could also read my books in the peaceful farm country. Actually, I kind of live in farm country right now. More like woods, but... and I have a deck to sit on and read my books in the peace and quiet.

7 - This one’s important, now: Coke or Pepsi?
I can't drink either anymore b/c of the caffeine. I'm a Sprite girl, and Coke makes that so I guess I'll go with Coke.

8 - What do you think it would be super fun to dress up as for a costume party or Halloween?
I wanted to do Lady Gaga last year but no one had any costume parties. I once also thought it'd be cool to dress up as Christina Aguilera and her husband. For those of you who know me and my husband, can't you kind of see it?

9 - What absolutely, positively HAS to be on your i-pod (or radio, or mp3 or CD player, or whatever)?
"Gloria" by Laura Branigan. That is my go-to song. I can't wait to sing it again at karaoke.

10 - Its sports day at school….whose Jersey are you wearing?
CARDINALS!!!!!!!

Get Challenged

Even though I haven't been able to scrapbook in days, that doesn't mean you can't scrap either. (Though hopefully tonight I will be reunited with my scrapbook supplies... fingers crossed!)

Here are a few scrapbook challenges that have caught my eye over the past few days:

The Scrappiest always posts a new sketch on Mondays and you have until the end of the month to complete as many of the sketches as you want to be entered into a random prize drawing. Check out sketch 65 and see what you can do with it!

The All About Me blog is hosting a no-prize challenge this month using the prompt My Impossible Future. Sure there is no prize, but this blog always has great ideas that are perfect for getting scrappers to scrap about themselves. It's like artistic journaling. There is also a great sketch to get you started.

Inspired Blueprints also has a challenge this month. Check out sketch 48 and create something wonderful for your chance to win some scrapbooking goodies!

And you have until tomorrow (May 19) to enter the Sketchy Thursdays weekly sketch challenge. Sketch 5.13 is great for using multiple photos on one page and you have the chance to win some awesome stickers!

Sketchy Thursdays also has a Guest Design Team challenge that ends on May 22. The winner gets an AWESOME prize pack. I'm hoping I'll have a chance to whip up something between now and Saturday. We shall see.

Have fun scrapping and if you know of any other scrappy challenges going on this month, feel free to post them in the comments.

Pic Spam

Because I can't post pictures of our new place because we still haven't closed because Bank of America is incompetent and we never should have gotten our loan from them in the first place, I'm going to post pictures of other things.

First up is Harvest Cheddar SunChips. OMG. Best. Chips. Ever. I can't get enough of these things and I just saw today at the grocery store that they come in single-serve packs. How awesome?

This next picture is of a super cute dress I saw at Target the last time I was there. It's from the Zac Posen for Target collection and isn't it adorable? However, I didn't realize it was $74.99 (yikes), but it would totally help me realize my Samantha Stevens/Bewitched fantasies, but in a totally modern way, don't you think?

Yesterday I saw The Addams Family on Broadway. I wouldn't recommend people to rush out and see it, but if you happen upon some cheap tickets, then you could give it a whirl. The show was cute but it certainly wasn't my favorite. There are much better shows out there.

Alright, I guess that's all the photo sharing I've got for you today. Hopefully some time this week I'll be able to post photos of us all moved into our new home. We heard it could be Tuesday. But no one really knows, so it probably won't be. *sigh*

now we are homeless

I wanted to post pictures of us in the new place seeing as we were closing today, but we didn't close today because the bank isn't ready with our paperwork and doesn't know when it will be ready.

Don't ever choose Bank of America for your home loan.

Fingers Crossed

All packed up. What will happen on Thursday? Fingers crossed. Prayers.

Rainbows!

There was a rainbow out this evening. I didn't have a camera to take a picture, but seeing this rainbow reminded me of the last rainbow I saw about two years ago. I took a picture of that rainbow and then made a scrapbook layout of it.

The journaling on this layout reads: "Every day may not be good, but there's something good in every day."

A good thing in my day was being productive at work. Oh and having an ice cream treat for dessert.

What was good in your day?

This Too Shall Pass

So just when you think things are going great, a wrench gets thrown into the mix. Today's wrench was my car breaking. The front left spring/strut broke while I was pulling out of our parking lot (in the pouring rain, I might add) and after a very upsetting morning, the car is now fixed and I better be getting some nice credit card reward points for this. But despite being soaking wet and having my car towed and spending three hours at Goodyear (reading a book... in the air conditioning... it wasn't so bad), I just have to keep reminding myself: our troubles are temporary. This too shall pass. There's something awesome for me in the future. Perhaps a Rube Goldberg machine?

And here's something fun:
3 names I go by:
1. wawa
2. lars
3. lori (because no one can say my name right)

3 jobs I have had:
1. ice cream scooper
2. concert venue parking lot attendant
3. Target employee

3 places I have lived:
1. England
2. Missouri
3. New Jersey

1. sprite
2. cafe mocha from Starbucks
3. gingerale

3 TV shows I watch:
1. Ugly Betty (used to)
2. How I Met Your Mother
3. 30 Rock

3 places I have been:
1. Australia
2. Ireland
3. France

3 place I would like to go:
1. Martha's Vineyard
2. London
3. Monaco

3. The Mary Tyler Moore show

3 favorite dishes:
1. German meatballs and rice

Challenges, Challenges

How did it get so hot all of a sudden? It was 9:45 in the morning and already I was sweating! Geesh!

Last night I did a bunch of scrapbooking for a variety of different challenges. It feels good to see old stuff in my stash get used up. It's especially nice to see that I can use Christmas papers for non-Christmas layouts, as evidenced below.

This is for the 4.29 sketch challenge at Sketchy Thursdays. I really need to get myself a big bracket template because my hand-drawn ones are always a little wonky. Oh well. I myself am a little wonky.

Next up, are a bunch of layouts for various challenges at Twisted Sketches. First, we have this layout based on sketch 45. The twist was "laugh" and I gave it a very loose interpretation. The word is in the first line of my journaling: "This tenement was no laughing matter." And it wasn't. I'm so glad I never have and never will live in a tenement. Yuck.

I misted on this and did some stamp/chalking along the edge of the white, lace paper. So fun! Again, I really need to go out and buy more colors of the chalk ink and the misting spray. These are really fun and easy elements to use.

This next one is based on sketch 44 at Twisted Sketches with a twist of "orange." As you can see, the color orange features prominently.

And this last one is probably my favorite of the bunch. I got to use a whole bunch of random scraps for this and I really like how it all turned out. This is based on Twisted Sketches sketch 43. The twist was "pattern" and I used a nice big bold one as my background.

Thanks for looking everyone!!
